Our New Mattapoisett Showroom

We are so excited to have opened our new showroom at 81 1/2 Fairhaven Road in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. Located at the River Shops, our showroom boasts gorgeous kitchen and bathroom displays along with thousands of samples of glimmering hardware, fixtures and the latest in kitchen appliance design by Wolf and Sub Zero.

As you walk into our showroom you are greeted by a grand display of Plain and Fancy Cabinetry. With details such as an elegant mantle to display your favorite collection, or hidden spice compartments behind carved columns, this display beautifully showcases the craftsmanship of the cabinet makers and the style of our lead designer, Tena Collyer.

Tena chose a traditional mid tone solid cherry cabinet and decorated them with semi precious hardware made of Jade, Mother of Pearl and Pen Shells. To add an additional seaside flair, Tena chose a granite reminiscent of river rock for both the countertop and the backsplash. This kitchen is not only functional but graceful, grand and elegant.

Details offers an extensive selection of decorative hardware. From fun and whimsical to rare gems and fine crystal, the hardware selection is magnificent.

Details is proud to unveil a fully functional kitchen showcasing the latest and greatest from SubZero & Wolf.

Here in our new working kitchen we can showcase the functionality of the cabinet design in conjunction with the amazing appliances. We chose to use a blend of custom and semi-custom cabinetry. We used Starmark and Semi-Custom in a buttercream painted finish. We then layered on a gorgeous absolute honed absolute black granite countertop.

We chose to kick it up a notch with a custom designed island and finished it in Plain and Fancy's new dry brushed glaze. The end result is a stunning anchor of design in the kitchen that has a furniture like feel. It warms up the space and defines "homey". To further enhance this look we chose a double stacked granite countertop that perfectly balances the scale of the island with its chunky dimensions.

The black stools, also available at Details, provide the perfect finishing touch to this stunning working kitchen.

Door samples by Plain & Fancy can be viewed in our new sample room along with numerous samples from our other cabinet lines. We have also created an additional sample room just for countertop finishes.

Our window display is a beautiful blend of stained and painted maple cabinetry by Plain & Fancy. This classic country look will brighten up any space and would look perfect in a period home, that needs updating. Custom brackets and a painted interior in the center wall cabinet add beautiful details without overwhelming the eye and provide a perfect place to display a collection of whiteware (available at Surroundings).

We chose to have a little fun in our new showroom. Here Tena used Contempo Fizz, a unique contemporary style display from Medallion semi-custom cabinetry in a deep gingersnap stain on cherry wood. The modern hardware along with mirrored backsplashdesigned to be reminiscent of soda fizz, make this display a perfect inspiration for a bar in your own home.

Sparkling granite countertops and polished chrome mosaic hardware truly make this display shine.

Perfect for the upscale seaside home, the "Yacht Club Bath" includes a custom bow front StarMark vanity with an elegant creamy marble top. Polished nickel fixtures and accessories give that nautical look, but with an upscale feel.

In 2006 Details designed the kitchen for Coastal Living Magazine’s Idea House. We loved the kitchen so much, we wanted to replicate it in our new showroom. This overall look is a perfect representation of a design style we call “coastal casual”, which we use often in our seaside town of Mattapoisett and surrounding coastal areas.

Warm Cherry Transitional Remodel

When clients of ours called and said that one of their waterlogged cabinets had literally fallen off of the wall, we knew and they knew that it was time for a new kitchen. What began as a stark, white kitchen has been transformed into a gorgeous, modern transitional kitchen for a busy household. We chose to work with Starmark Cabinetry to design a contemporary take on cherry. The subtle hues of this natural wood lend natural warmth to the kitchen that was missing before. Out clients selected glossy granite, SubZero & Wolf appliances and finished off the kitchen with bright and shiny hardware. It is amazing to see just how different this showcase kitchen was before. Our newest designer Bethany Souza

Born and raised in Acushnet, MA, Bethany received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Interior Design from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. She describes her design style as transitional, as she can appreciate the detail and comfort level of traditional styles while, at the same time, welcome the clean lines and tailored look of more contemporary approaches. Having grown up in Southeastern MA, her designs tend to have a fresh, coastal influence to them.

Bethany has worked as an Interior Designer in Boston, Newton and most recently, Southwest Florida. She was a designer of a volunteer project for the Boston Children's Hospital called the Devon Nicole House, which was later awarded the ASID Community Service Award. She also drafted and designed a master bathroom that was featured on HGTV's hit show "I Want That! - Baths" in 2006.

Overall, Bethany is a personable and talented designer who wants her final product to be, not only functional and beautiful, but also a design that reflects the personality and lifestyle of her client. Her hope is that every client is able to see the influence they had on the project and be proud that it is their own.

Small Kitchen Redesign

When Kitchen & Bath Details was asked to work on a kitchen remodeling project for this Cohasset client we loved the directive – take a small kitchen in a historic home, open it up a bit, provide some seating, an amazing fireplace and keep it cozy! Our designers began Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry in white with a low sheen enamel with absolute black honed granite countertops and installed Sub-Zero & Wolf Appliances.

A hutch with open glass doors and lighting showcases beautiful china and adds a warm glow to the room. A desk provides an office workspace, while cozy dinners are prepared the flat screen TV allows the “chef” to catch up on the news.

Cambridge Classic

This project in Cambridge, MA called for a great deal of historic preservation and replication, as our client wanted to keep with the period of the home. We worked with our custom cabinet line, Plain & Fancy, to create a cabinet door style which mimicked the original wainscoting in the foyer of this striking historic home. A hand glazed latte finish was selected for the cabinetry and panels which mask the Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances. Both granite and wood were used for the countertops and glass front cabinets were installed at the end of the island to preserve an “academic and historical” feel for the homeowners collection of cookbooks.

We had the great fortune to remodel the Butler’s Pantry (photo below center) at the same time as the kitchen was remodeled. Glass front cabinets were used in order to open up the small space, at the same time showcasing an impressive collection of barware. The rich dark wood is consistent with the look and feel of the home’s history and setting.

Summer Seaside Kitchen

When Kitchen & Bath Details was approached by a client for a kitchen in their summer home, we knew one thing for certain – these folks will be entertaining! Houseguests abound when you own a stunning home on property overlooking Mattapoisett Harbor. As family and friends wander in off the beach to begin to unwind for a lovely meal the reminiscing begins: previous summers, missed putts and Opti’s gone awry. Our homeowners wanted a large functional space to accommodate many hands to assist in the evening meal preparations and to share in the joy of togetherness.

The Kitchen & Bath Details design team went to work creating a kitchen that has multiple work stations, a big country sink and an island that houses a microwave, seating and the ever present jar of fresh flowers collected from the garden. The color palate was inspired by the seaside location, Medallions semi-custom cabinetry in Oyster Heirloom finish and expansive granite countertops the color of beach sand set the tone for a relaxed weekend retreat.

As many residents on the southeast coast of MA would agree, no one feels like leaving the activities early to hit the supermarket. Chief Designer Tena Collyer allowed for this by installing an impressive Sub-Zero refrigerator, ice maker and refrigerator drawers. The kitchen had several unusual angles, which Tena used to her design advantage, angling the SubZero transitions the space between kitchen, wet bar and into the dining area. As a nod towards the families’ love of grilling and their sense of humor, asparagus pulls were used on the SubZero!

Old World Style

It is very special to have a kitchen large enough to accommodate an enormous island and a table that easily seats six! In this kitchen Chief Designer Tena Collyer was inspired by the high ceilings and wooden beams. The centerpiece of the room is the Plain & Fancy white latte glazed island, all topped with stunning granite countertops. High end, Sub Zero and Wolf appliances lend a professional feel to this very cozy family gathering spot.

Plain & Fancy with Chad Michael Peters

Recently we were brought into a kitchen renovation in Concord, MA, by our lifelong friend, designer, Chad Michael Peters. The setting, decor and the homeowners’ passion for history gave us the genre in which to work. Our mission, respect the homes colonial roots, while implementing beauty and functionality.

Kitchen & Bath Details designer, Tena and Chad collaborated to design cabinetry and trim that enhances the understated luxury of natural cherry cabinetry in a hand finished matte. Plain and Fancy Cabinets were the perfect choice to execute such an elegant cabinetry design. As a nod toward a more modern trend, there is the introduction of soft white cabinetry on the island which houses the warming oven. This is all finished in custom honed and antiqued granite counter tops. Tena's is known for her detailed eye, and the more time the homeowners spend in this kitchen their appreciation for her technical skill is growing.

There are literally thousands of tiles to choose from; for this modern traditional kitchen the elegant classic, antique subway tile in soft white, was a natural choice. A signature beaded detail made the quilted pattern behind the stove a true tile showcase.

Jill poured through hardware catalogue after catalogue until our decision was unanimous, nickel handles and drawer pulls and the fabulous Kohler faucet to add an elegant finishing touch.

The mood of any room is always set by the lighting, this is particularly important in a kitchen, where you quickly transition from the task of cooking to sitting down with your loved ones to share the events of the day. It was of utmost importance to keep the lighting fixtures consistant with the period of the home; hence the decision to install custom nickel pendant lighting.

It was a joy to be a part of this project. Kitchen redesigns allow us to infuse a home with new life and enhance the homeowners’ enjoyment of this room that is always the center of activity!

Antiqued & Distressed

Few of us are lucky enough to have incredible architectural features in our kitchens. This home's kitchen has impressive cathedral ceilings which are intersected by wooden beams - our inspiration for this antiqued distressed kitchen. Kitchen & Bath Details chief designer Tena Collyer used a small crown molding feature to transition the space between cabinetry and cathedral ceiling. To anchor the kitchen Tena used Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry in a beautiful celery finish around the perimeter of the kitchen. Taller cabinets were installed with glass doors for the purpose of showcasing the homeowners collections of vibrant pottery. The center island, with its heirloom stain atop maple and decorative legs appears as a beloved piece of antique furniture.

A master of space planning,Tena made excellent use of the rooms corners, angling the refrigerator and sink on opposing sides of the cook top. Traditional beadboard is used in an unexpected way, as the backsplash and shelving for spices.
