Middle Street Traditional Charm - S. Dartmouth

We are getting really excited for next week's home show! In preparation, we have been working hard putting together scrapbooks and photographs highlighting some of our best work. We stumbled upon this job, which was completed back in 2007. Tena designed this beautiful kitchen for an amazing couple in South Dartmouth.  It was a lot of fun designing this kitchen because our clients were so easy to work with and we knew that they would use the space to its full capacity (she is a phenomenal baker and loves to spend time in the kitchen).  Our clients selected Plain & Fancy Cabinetry (Surround: Buttercream Enamel on a Beaded Inset Vogue door; Island: Heirloom Cherry on a Beaded Inset Vogue door), Peacock Green granite countertops, and SubZero & Wolf Appliances. Just breathtaking! And they LOVE it!

House Beautiful's Kitchen of the Year - 2010

I was ecstatic to hear that Jeff Lewis would be the designer for House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year! We are huge fans of Jeff at Details and often use his Bravo TV show “Flipping Out” as a common water cooler conversation. We rarely get the opportunity to design with contemporary styling in our area, so admiring his projects can be a breath of fresh air.

For me, Jeff does an amazing job making contemporary design appealing to someone with traditional taste.  The key is keeping things clean.  I think we can thank his OCD for this talent. Overcrowding with props and/or countertop appliances can definitely ruin a look – especially when working with contemporary design.  The open shelving, for example, looks fantastic with just basic white dinnerware and plain glass stemware.  A pop of color with natural objects, like flowers or plants, are also a great idea to keep things simple and less distracting to the eye.  To add something a little bit punchy… my favorite “pop” of color in any kitchen would be the illustrious red knobs on a Wolf range. What a statement!

We can’t wait to see what Jeff has in store for us when the new season of “Flipping Out” begins on August 10th.  Check it out!!!

    Cohasset Kitchen Redesign

When Kitchen & Bath Details was asked to work on a kitchen remodeling project for this Cohasset client we loved the directive – take a small kitchen in a historic home, open it up a bit, provide some seating, an amazing fireplace and keep it cozy! Our designers began Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry in white with a low sheen enamel with absolute black honed granite countertops and installed Sub-Zero & Wolf Appliances.

A hutch with open glass doors and lighting showcases beautiful china and adds a warm glow to the room. A desk provides an office workspace, while cozy dinners are prepared the flat screen TV allows the “chef” to catch up on the news.

Please contact Jill Muldoon to schedule an appointment with one of our designers or visit our showroom to see more of our work.

    Historic Kitchen Restoration, Cambridge

This project in Cambridge, MA called for a great deal of historic preservation and replication, as our client wanted to keep with the period of the home. We worked with our custom cabinet line, Plain & Fancy, to create a cabinet door style which mimicked the original wainscoting in the foyer of this striking historic home. A hand glazed latte finish was selected for the cabinetry and panels which mask the Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances. Both granite and wood were used for the countertops and glass front cabinets were installed at the end of the island to preserve an “academic and historical” feel for the homeowners collection of cookbooks.

We had the great fortune to remodel the Butler’s Pantry (photo below center) at the same time as the kitchen was remodeled. Glass front cabinets were used in order to open up the small space, at the same time showcasing an impressive collection of barware. The rich dark wood is consistent with the look and feel of the home’s history and setting.
